I agree with Philip, he is correct. The Sister of the Assumption were a teaching order. The convent taught grades 7 to 12 inclusive, also known as the High School. Sister Saint Sylva (Ida Tetreault) taught grades 11 and 12 and was also the principal of the Val Marie School.
Does any one know her companion to her right ? Anyone ??

Photo 4532 - These religious Sisters are Sisters of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin from Nicolet, Quebec, Canada and NOT Sisters of Providence, as your caption mentions. . I had these Sisters in elementary school in Spencer, Massachusetts, as they catered to French-speaking former French Canadian families located also in New England. Most likely, they taught at the Convent school in Val Marie, as you can also see them standing with students and staff in the next photos. I would be surprised if they established a hospital, as they were strictly a teaching community of religious Sisters.
